Baška Voda from NW

The village and resort of Baška Voda lies on the Adriatic coast of Croatia opposite the island of Brac four miles SE of the bay and harbour of Omis and six miles NW of the harbour of Makarska. The village, which dates from the 18th century, is now a popular tourist resort, with numerous hotels, villas and other tourist developments clustered around its small harbour.

The harbour itself has been converted into a mini ‘marina’ with 30 berths for yachts up to around 15 metres in depths of 4.0 metres. Shelter here is good from the prevailing winds but strong southerlies send in a heavy swell.

Navigation

The are no dangers in the approach to Baška Voda, although depths along the coast here are relatively shallow for some distance off. The village lies under a high mountain range and can be difficult to identify until quite close in. From 2-3 miles off the masts of yachts in the harbour and the large curved breakwater protecting the harbour from NW will be clearly seen. The harbour is entered from SSE. Depths in the entrance are around 5.0 metres.

Baška Voda harbour is tiny and there is space for no more than 30 yachts on its piers and quays. Most of the moorings are occupied by local yachts and it is a question of fitting in as directed wherever there is space.

The deeper water is in the SE part of the harbour, where depths along the pier and breakwater are 3.0 - 4.0 metres. Laid moorings at all berths.

The inner side of the long breakwater towards its end is used by tripper boats.

Facilities in the harbour include water and electricity and there is a new toilet and shower block near the harbour. Nearby facilities include bars and restaurants, laundry and cycle hire. Daily berthing costs for a typical 13 metre yacht (August 2011): Euros 53.
