Beirut (Arabic: بيروت‎, Bayrūt, About this soundpronunciation (help·info); French: Beyrouth) is the capital and largest city of Lebanon. No recent population census has been conducted, but 2007 estimates ranged from slightly more than 1 million to 2.2 million as part of Greater Beirut. Located on a peninsula at the midpoint of Lebanon's Mediterranean coast, Beirut is the country's largest and main seaport.

Navigation

Provide any navigation notes especially any dangers or peculiar local conditions here.

Entrance

Beirut is a port of entry/exit for Lebanon. For details see Entrance: Lebanon.

At 12nm from the coast, yachts should call Oscar Charley on VHF channel 11 and ask them to contact the planned marina asking for a clearance number. Then request permission to enter Lebanese waters.

Only after receiving permission, should the yacht proceed.

As with all yacht movements in Lebanon, Military Operation Control (Oscar Charlie) must be contacted prior to departure or arrival at any port in Lebanon even when already cleared into the country.

An unreported movement will soon be followed by a visit from a Lebanese Navy patrol boat and endless questions.

Berthing

Beirut is one of the largest commercial ports in the Mediterranean.
