The bay of U. Lucina from NW

The bay of U. Lucina is situated half a mile NW of the harbour of Brbinj on the NE coast of the island of Dugi Otok and ten miles off the mainland coast of Croatia, facing the island of Ugljan. Separated from Brbinj by a narrow isthmus, the bay is in an attractive setting, surrounded by wooded slopes, and offers good shelter in all but strong N winds. A regular ferry from Zadar calls here, but the facilities for visiting yachts consist of a row of mooring buoys along the W side of the inlet. There are a few facilities ashore, but more in the village of Brbinj a short walk over the isthmus.

Navigation

There are no dangers in the immediate approach to Brbinj. If arriving from S, it is possible to pass inside the island of O. Ultra on entering the bay as there are depths of over 10 metres in the channel.

Entrance

Bozava is the closest seasonal port of entry. The nearest year-round port of entry is Zadar.

Visiting yachts can pick up one of the row on mooring buoys on the W side of the bay, opposite to the ferry terminal on the E side. Depths at the buoys are 6.0 - 8.0 metres. Alternatively anchor wherever there is space, clear of the buoys, in 5.0 - 6.0 metres. Holding is moderate to good in sand and weed. Shelter on both the buoys and on anchor is good in all but strong N winds, which send in an uncomfortable swell.

Marinas & Yacht Clubs

None.

Anchorages

Alternatively to the harbour buoys you can anchor wherever there is space, clear of the buoys, in 5.0 - 6.0 metres. Holding is moderate to good in sand and weed. Shelter on both the buoys and on anchor is good in all but strong N winds, which send in an uncomfortable swell.

Things to do Ashore

Tourism

Ashore there is the small hamlet of Zaglav (not to be confused with the similarly named village at U. Triluke). Over the isthmus to the SE is the larger village of Brbinj, one of the prettiest villages along the E shore of the island and in a similarly attractive setting. In the SE part of Brbinj are the ruins of the fortified house of the Soppe family, a prominent 16th century Zadar family, which contains a chapel dating from the 17th century. The parish church of Saints Cosmas and Damian in Brbinj dates back to the 14th century, although the present structure is largely from the 15th century.

Grocery & Supply Stores

Small shop at the ferry jetty on E side of bay.

Eateries

Restaurant close to ferry terminal. Others in Brbinj.

Internet/WiFi

None.

Motorbike & Car Rentals

None.

Garbage Disposal

Bins near the ferry teminal.

Transportation
