* One of the nicest marinas I have visited. Very well kept, clean and efficient.  The staff are superb - polite and most helpful - and an eclectic mix of sailors is to be found here.  As mentioned, high winds and currents are to be expected, and yachts do move around on their moorings a fair bit in some parts of the marina, most notably on pontoon C, where a strong eddy is caused due to the proximity to the concrete launching bay.  Staff constantly patrol the pontoons, checking mooring lines and adjusting as necessary.  Wifi is available through 'WiFiPlus' which is a rather expensive means of accessing the net.  I have asked for this to be reviewed.  The marina cafe, which has great food at reasonable prices, has its own Internet, which is free, and yachts moored close by will have 24 hr Internet access. --[[User:BenPikeUK|BenPikeUK]]

Cleopatra Marina is a relatively new marina (opened 2009) situated on the Aktio peninsula opposite the town of Preveza, which lies at the entrance to the Ambrakikos Gulf in the South Ionian Sea. The marina, although small, is associated with a large boatyard capable of storing nearly 1,000 yachts on land and is therefore popular with cruisers laying up in the yard. The marina offers 100 berths for yachts up to 30.0 metres and in depths of up to 8.0 metres. The marina has a wide range of services and the yard is capable of most repairs. The marina offer berths in the water ONLY in the summer, as the winter is considered dangerous. In winter the marina offers only dry berths.

Communication

Contact Cleopatra Marina on VHF channel 67 prior to entry.

Navigation

See Wiki entry for Preveza for entry details. The marina lies immediately to starboard once through the entrance channel to Preveza. It is entered from E between a long, curved wavebreak pontoon and a shorter pontoon with the fuel station (marked with flags) at its outer end. Entry and manoeuvering is difficult at times in view of the current which can flow in either direction through the marina. Do not attempt to enter without calling the marina staff for advice/assistance.

Entrance

This marina is a port of entry/exit.

Submit details about facilities for checking in - where to dock, location of immigration & customs, etc.

Berthing

See note above. The marina staff will help with berthing, especially if there is a current flowing. Berths are stern/bows-to on two short pontoons with two mooring lines or stern/bows-to or alongside the L-shaped wavebreak pontoon. Yachts (especially catamarans) are often directed to go alongside the wavebreak pontoon if only staying for a short period (or if close to the 30 metre length limit).

Facilities

  • Café/bar
  • Restaurant
  • Minimarket
  • TV lounge (Greek channels only)
  • Book swap
  • Chandlery
  • Accommodation (in yard)

Repairs

Boatyard with large hard standing for up to 1,000 yachts on steel cradles. Travel lifts (300T and 50T). Crane (10 T). Maximum size of yacht for lift out: 45 metres length, 10 metres beam, 5.0 metres draft. All kinds of repairs on site or via specialist contractors. Showers, toilets and self-service laundry in the yard. Wifi (but very unreliable during busy periods). Wifi in marina cafe (Food and More) is often more dependable.

Security

Good (24 hr). CCTV.

Location

The marina is separated from the shops and other facilities of Preveza by the half mile wide entrance channel. A daily ferry (or in bad weather a minibus) goes over to Preveza at 10.00 and returns at 12.00. In addition to the marina café, there is a good restaurant, Panos Taverna, 300 metres S near the fort at the end of the Aktio peninsula.

Transportation

  • None, apart from above. Taxis can, however, be arranged from Preveza.
  • Several car hire outlets at Aktio airport. Hertz will collect and deliver to marina if not busy.
  • For scooter hire, take bus to Lefkas. Europcar at the airport rent scooters but very unreliable.
  • Long distance buses from Preveza to Athens (6-7 hours) and Igoumenitsa (2-3 hours).
  • Onward ferries from Igoumenitsa to Corfu, where there are year-round flights to most European destinations.
  • Airport of Aktio only 1.5 kms from the marina, with charter flights during the season to several European destinations.

Price

Current daily price for typical 13 metre yacht (September 2011): Euros 42 (1 April to 31 October); Euros 21 (1 November to 31 March).
