Cleopatra Marina is a relatively new marina (opened 2009) situated on the Aktion peninsular opposite the town of Preveza, which lies at the entrance to the Amvrakikos Gulf in the South Ionian Sea. The marina, although small, is associated with a large boatyard capable of storing nearly 1,000 yachts on land and is therefore popular with cruisers laying up in the yard. The marina offers 100 berths for yachts up to 30.0 metres and in depths of up to 8.0 metres. The marina offers a wide range of services and the yard is capable of virtually all repairs.

Navigation/Approach

See Wiki entry for Preveza for entry details. The marina lies immediately to starboard once through the entrance channel to Preveza. It is entered from E between a long, curved wavebreak pontoon and a shorter pontoon with the fuel station (marked with flags) at its outer end. Entry and manoeuvering is difficult at times in view of the current which can flow in either direction through the marina. Do not attempt to enter without calling the marina staff for advice/assistance.

Berthing

See note above. The marina staff will help with berthing, especially if there is a current flowing. Berths are stern/bows-to on two short pontoons with two mooring lines or stern/bows-to or alongside the L-shaped wavebreak pontoon. Yachts (especially catamarans) are often directed to go alongside the wavebreak pontoon if only staying for a short period (or if close to the 30 metre length limit).

Marina facilities

  • Café/bar
  • Restaurant
  • TV lounge (Greek channels only)
  • Book swap
  • Chandlery
  • Accommodation (in yard)

Repairs/Yard

Boatyard with large hard standing for up to 1,000 yachts on steel cradles. Travel lifts (300T and 50T). Crane (10 T). Maximum size of yacht for lift out: 45 metres length, 10 metres beam, 5.0 metres draft. All kinds of repairs on site or via specialist contractors. Showers, toilets and self-service laundry in the yard. Wifi (but very unreliable).

Security

Good (24 hr). CCTV.

Marina Location

The marina is separated from the shops and other facilities of Preveza by the half mile wide entrance channel. A daily ferry (or in bad weather a minibus) goes over to Preveza at 10.00 and returns at 12.00. In addition to the marina café, there is a taverna 300 metres S near the fort at the end of the Aktion peninsula.

Transport

  • None, apart from above. Taxis can, however, be arranged from Preveza.
  • Long distance buses from Preveza to Athens (6-7 hours) and Igoumenitsa (2-3 hours).
  • Onward ferries from Igoumenitsa to Corfu, where there are year-round flights to most European destinations.
  • Airport of Aktio only 1.5 kms from the marina, with flights during the season to most European destinations.

Price

Current daily price for typical 13 metre yacht (September 2011): Euros 42 (1 April to 31 October); Euros 21 (1 November to 31 March).

Personal experience

Post your personal experience and rating of this marina.

  • The marina is quite smart and much better value than Lefkas marina five miles SW, although it does experience some swell in strong westerly winds. --Athene of Lymington 10:46, 19 October 2011 (BST)
