Guzelce Marina hard standing

Guzelce Marina lies 22 miles W of the southern entrance to the Bosphorus (Strait of Istanbul), on the north coast of the Sea of Marmara. While still giving the appearance of being somewhat incomplete, the marina has alongside and stern-to berthing on its quays and jetties, water and electricity at all berths, toilets and showers, wifi and a huge area of hard standing for yachts wishing to lift out. Shelter is good from all directions except SE (winds from this direction are luckily rare).

Communication

Contact Guzelce marina on VHF channel 73.

Navigation

The marina breakwater is conspicuous from all directions. The marina is entered from SE. A small craft and fishing boat harbour lies to starboard on entry. The marina is straight on. Depths in the entrance are 5.0 – 6.0 metres and at the quays and jetties from 3.5 to 5.5 metres. If approaching from the direction of Istanbul, note that there may be strong winds blowing down the bay of Büyükçekmece, which lies just E of the marina, in even moderate northerlies.

Berthing

A marina RIB will usually meet visiting yachts at the entrance and direct them to a berth. While there are some berths on laid moorings along the northern quay outside the marina office, most visitors will be berthed alongside on the two concrete jetties extending SE from the breakwater. Very large yachts (20 metres plus) are berthed on the S side alongside the quayed breakwater.

  • Although in a rather soulless location, Guzelce could be an excellent place for wintering a yacht ashore, with a huge hard standing area, a full range of technical services and only 30 minutes by road from Istanbul international airport. Moreover it is half the price of the main Istanbul marinas.--Athene of Lymington 14:28, 14 June 2011 (BST)
