The harbor of Honfleur

If you go nowhere else on the northern coast of France east of Cherbourg, Honfleur would be the place that I recommend visiting. Not only is the town beautiful and full of great restaurants, bars, galleries and shops of all kinds it is within a locked basin and provides an extremely good nights sleep as all pontoons are within a locked basin and there is limited commercial fishing.

In summer months it gets very busy but you can call ahead and book a berth to ensure that you're not disappointed.

The port itself is very well maintained and very clean unlike many other ports in the north of France. The staff at the marina office are very helpful.

Charts

Please provide a good map or chart that clearly shows details (depths, where to dock, scale etc.) of the harbor.

Give charts applicable to this port or refer to a Chart section of another page (Country or Region) that lists the charts.

Navigation

The inbound lock into the port area is available for inbound traffic on the hour and the lock for outbound on the half hour. The lock also runs free flow around high water.

Once inside the locked basin you can proceed to the visitor pontoons which are about 1/2 mile down on the starboard side. Alternatively if you're 14m or under you can head to the waiting area for the bridge into the 'Vieux Basin'. The bridge opens at 30 mins past the hour and you need only wait in front of it for the port to open it for you.

Entrance

Honfleur is a port of entry/exit to France.

Submit details about facilities for checking in - location of immigration & customs, etc.

Berthing

Two main options are available the visitor pontoon in the 'Avant Port' which is just after the lock on the starboard side or the visitor pontoon in the 'Vieux Basin'.

Vieux Basin This area is right in front of all the bars and is the choice option. Be aware however that this is overlooked by a very busy tourist area so if you're not keen to be on show it might not suit you. While the bars around the waterfront are generally open quite late ~1am and there is often music and some noise though usually not to the level you might find in a port in Greece for examples. Max length is 14m.

Avant Port Only 2-3 min walk from the main square this area is a little quieter so if you're keen on getting a great nights sleep this might be a better option for you. It's also suitable for larger yachts/catamarans and boats over 14m, it's also right next to the toilet/shower block which is open 24/7 which could be handy for you.

Both options have power and water.

There are two town quays however the main town quay is used by fishing boats. The second which is to starboard after the outer pontoon appears to have a couple of small yachts that haven't been moved for a while and could provide a backup option if you're unable to raft up anywhere else.

If you are coming in summer months it is worth calling a week or more in advance to book a berth as it is an extremely popular spot.
