Entrance
Arrival
Yachts arriving to Isreal are contacted by the Israeli Navy 20 ashore. Having an AIS is helpful. Further in they are intercepted by a patrol boat. Entry ports: Haifa (Shavit marina inside Hakishon port), Herzlia, Ashqelon & Eilat on the Red Sea. Tel-Aviv and Ashdod marinas are not port of entry. Tel-Aviv marina is served most conveniently by Herzlia, Ashdod marina by Ashqelon if coming from the south and Herzlia if from north.
For a good detail description see Noonsite.
Departure
Must notify authorities 72 hour before departure. Once departed a yacht must leave the teritorial waters of Israel. On your way out, few miles from the shore, you will be called by the Israeli navy who will validate your particulars and intended course (all usually conducted very politely, by a young female navy sailor).
Customs and Immigration
Customs
Customs officer will meet the yacht during entry in the entry port in an area designated for visiting yachts. Normal procedure, any weapons must be declared, drugs forbidden, etc.
Immigration
Immigration officer will meet the yacht during entry in the entry port in an area designated for visiting yachts. Crew not allowed on land before completion of procedure. You will be asked by the immigration officer or by a security officer about your recent ports of call, suspicious persons that attempted contact, weapons on-board and any items received on the way that you are not sure of their safety.

Berthing
- Ashdod | – marina |
- Shavit Marina
Akko, Shavit (Hakishon) and Tel-Aviv are highly crowded. A visiting yacht (after competing entry procedures) may find a visitors berth for a short stay of a day or two. Better bets on the Med shore are Herzlia, Ashdod & Ashqelon.
Anchorages
Once you are checked into Israel, you will be issued a cruising permit which allows you to sail and anchor along the coast. Substantially all of the anchorages are open roadsteads suitable for anchoring only in very fair weather. Ask the locals who will be eager to advise you. Useless to ask at the marina office.
Transportation
- Basically no land transport out of Israel
- Good air connection to practically anywhere from Ben-Gurion airport near Tel-Aviv. Charter flights to/from Eilat on the Red sea.
