Karlovasi (Καρλόβασι) Harbor is a commercial harbor on the NW side of the island of Samos. It is located some distance from the actual town of Karlovasi. It is protected from the meltemi but has an uncomfortable a swell. You can moor stern-to on the quay. There are a few tavernas but not many stores.
Around the end of the 19th and the early part of the 20th century Karlovasi had thriving leather tanning industry.

There are no check-in facilities. A Coast Guard Officer may appear directing to collect the harbor dues. Anchor in the harbor and moor either stern-to or bow-to. Good holding.

There are no secure anchorages near Karlovasi.

A visit to Potami is worthwhile. This is a stream with natural water falls shaded by sycamore trees. It is just a few miles W of Karlovasi. Very beautiful, natural setting. The scenery is not what one would usually associate with Aegean islands. You can swim there.
Also, a hike to the Mikro and Megalo Seitani (Μικρό and Μεγάλο Σεϊτάνι) is well worth the effort.
