La Caletta is a former fishing village converted into a purpose-built yacht harbour, situated on the NE coast of Sardinia, 40 miles south from Olbia and 45 miles north from Santa Maria di Navarrese. It is a good base for car or motorbike hire to explore the wonderful landscape of the Orosei and Gennargentu national park. Nearby is a magnificent 10km long beach.

Tourism

While the town of La Caletta is not particularly exciting, it is a good base for exploring the hinterland of NE Sardinia. Especially worth visiting from here are the Serra Orios nuraghic village; Su Gologone, a lovely spring issuing from a rocky gorge just north of the national park of Orosei and Gennargentu; the remote and wild gorge of Gorrupu; the Grotta di Ispignoli (‘bone in throat’), a huge cavern featuring the second tallest column stalagmite in the world; the Sa Ena’e Thomes ‘tomb of the giants’, an intriguing bronze age burial tomb; the mountain village of Orgosolo, renowned for its political and social murals, and the viewpoint of Monto Ortobene with its spectacular views and dramatic statue of Christ Redentore.
