More notes about the marina

Marina di Grosseto (also, confusingly, known as Marina di San Rocco or Marina della Maremma) is situated 30 miles SE of Piombino at the mouth of the canal leading to the Tuscan town of Grosseto 12 kilometres inland. The canal basin here has been dredged and pontoons installed to create a small marina suitable for shallow-draft yachts of up to 14 metres. The marina has a total of 561 berths in depths of 2.5 - 3.0 metres.

Communication

Contact Marina di Grosseto on VHF channel 09 prior to entry. Telephone or e-mail for advance reservations.

Navigation

The marina entrance is situated along the low sandy coast four miles SE of the shallow fishing port of Castiglione della Pescaia. The entrance can be distinguished by the two curved breakwaters protecting the narrow entrance. Enter with care, as the depths in the centre of the channel are little more than 3.0 metres. The deeper water is to the N side of the channel. Entry should not be attempted under any circumstances with a swell running, when entry or exit becomes impossible. Once inside the basins, depths are mostly 2.5 metres. Protection is good with wind from all directions. The marina office is in the control tower at the entrance to the inner basin.
