The bay of Palaioastritsa

Palaiokastritsa, on the East side of Corfu Island, is the "poster" of the island. It first appeared in a watercolor by Edward Lear and since then is appears in every poster or postcard of Corfu. Unfortunately today this idyllic cove with its tiny island church has been surrounded by monster high-rise hotels. But if you place your camera carefully you too can get a good picture.

Navigation

Approaching the cove is difficult because of the rocky shoal.

Ports

You can either anchor off, if you find room, or go stern-to the quay. The port is full of small rental boats with many mooring lines in the harbour. Only at the end of the breakwater is room for approx 4 yachts. A detached pontoon at its end is an option for overnight. The port offers excellent shelter from any swell direction, but is not well sheltered from strong W-NW.
