Off the coast of Perak state, lies a cluster of small islands with Pangkor Island being the main Historical landmark island, unquestionably for the locals have some of the best beaches on the western coast of peninsular Malaysia.

Three islands predominate in terms of accessibility and infrastructure into and around Pangkor Island

- the largest is Pangkor Island itself.

- the southern west smaller island, is  privately owned Pangkor Laut Resort - hosting one of the most luxurious resort in Malaysia.

- the new manmade island Marina Island Pangkor.

- A new Gateway to Pulau Pangkor with Privately owned Commercial Marina & Jetty ( Ferries & Water Taxis to Pangkor).

Demographics

Pangkor Island is 8 square km big and inhabited by circa 25 thousand people, mainly fishermen and local tourist operators. They live in scattered fishing settlements, especially on the eastern coast, and their catch consists mainly of cuttlefish and anchovy. Pangkor is intensively promoted as a budget tourist destinations for backpackers, however it’s still fishing and dried seafood to be the main industry is to be replaced slowly with hoteliers and tourism operators.

Things to do Ashore

Tourism

Visit:

  1. Beautiful beaches are Nipah Beach and Coral Beach, both situated in Nipah Bay on the west-northern coast, popular among foreigners (mainly Europeans and Australians) as well as locals with budget accomodations surrounded with local F&Bs. Other private beaches also avialable to public access
  2. With tiny islets nearby (Giam and Mentagor) surrounded by corals, fish and sea cucumbers, this place is a fully satisfactory snorkeling spot. If you are into other watersports- they are easily accessible everywhere around the island
  3. For active and adventurous- there’s an uphill jungle trek across the island (takes around 4hrs). Pangkor has a lot to offer also to bird watchers- among many interesting species, amazing hornbills can be easily spotted

Pangkor Island is located about 90km south west from lpoh and reachable by ferries:

  1. from Marina Island Pangkor via Bridge Access in only 10 minutes
  2. and Lumut in only 35 -45 mins
