More notes about the marina

Porto Marmareo (also known as Porto Piccolo) is the old harbour of Siracusa in Sicily at the north end of Ortigia island, now given greater protection by two long breakwaters. There is rarely space here for yachts in transit.

Communication

None.

Navigation

The Pizzo rocks extend nearly 400 metres off the coast on the approach to the harbour from the north. Porto Marmareo is entered from ENE, being careful to avoid the shallows either side of the entrance. Depths in the entrance are 3.0 - 4.0 metres and maximum depths inside the harbour are 3.0 metres. A narrow channel connects the harbour to the bay of Siracusa to the west of Ortigia island, but is only navigable by small craft.

Berthing

There is no berthing assistance. It is advisable not to simply occupy a vacant berth as there is no provision here for yachts in transit.

Facilities

The catwalks in the harbour are operated by five separate private yacht clubs. There is usually no space here for visiting yachts unless by prior arrangement.

Repairs

None.

Security

Poor.

Location

The harbour is immediately between the old and new towns and provides good access to both.

Transportation

  • Buses to Catania and Messina
  • Daily long-distance bus to Rome
  • Trains to Messina and onwards to mainland

Price

Provide price information. (If possible add a link to the marina's pricing page.)
