Prigradica harbour from SSW

The small harbour of Prigradica lies on the N coast of the island of Korčula in Croatia, around 10 miles E of the islet of Proizd/wiki/Prigradica#ProizdIsland icon Proizd [[Prigradica#Proizd|Proizd]] 42°59.048'N, 016°36.955'E at the extreme W tip. The village is not especially picturesque and is consequently less frequented by visiting yachts than other harbours on the island. It can also get rather choppy in the harbour with the usual afternoon sea breezes, which tend to blow from the NW in this area. However, in settled weather, it offers a useful overnight stop off along this coast. The shelter is good in winds from W through S to E but the bay is exposed with anything N in the wind.

Navigation

There are no dangers in the immediate approach to Prigradica from the W. However, in the approach from the E, note that there is a series of rocky islets/wiki/Prigradica#isletsDanger icon islets [[Prigradica#islets|islets]] 42°58.031'N, 016°49.642'E extending almost two miles along the coast and an offing of at least half a mile is advised. The bay of Prigradica is protected from the N by a long breakwater extending from the E side of the bay with a red light structure on the end.

Entrance

Korčula (town) is the nearest year-round port of entry.

The best berthing option for a visiting yacht is to go alongside or stern or bows-to using the anchor on the jetty on the E side of the bay. The outer part is supplied with nasty black rubber fenders for larger vessels to lie alongside, so it is best to moor on the half closer to the root if possible. Depths here are 7.0 - 8.0 metres and the holding is good in sand and weed.

Alternatively, go alongside the quay on the E side of the harbour or stern/bows-to using the anchor. Depths alongside are 6.0 - 7.0 metres. Part of the quay towards the village is buoyed off in the summer as a water polo area. There are no facilities on the jetty or the quay. Shelter in the harbour is good in winds from W through S to E but the bay is exposed with anything N in the wind.
