Salamis lies just to the west of Athens and is known for the battle that took place in the straits between the island and the mainland in 480BC. Today anchoring in many bays in the north of the island is restricted.

Navigation is only unrestricted along the south of the island and on part of the south-west coast.

• Ormos Kanakia

Ormos Kanakia

37°54.01′N, 23°24.41′E A bay on the south-west of the island partly protected by the islet of Kanakia. Anchor in the north or south of the bay on sand. A useful stop on the way to or from the Corinth Canal. In strong westerlies the bay can become untenable.
