Sorry - I'd have been a bit less trenchant had I known you had done it and with the best of intentions.  I'll look at breaking up the section when I get home, probably into Venice Central and Venice Lagoon (albeit for most cruisers it's an artificial distinction).  The important thing is that cruisers browsing the Wiki realise that there's detailed information on all the ports and marinas in the area of Venice, which they wouldn't at the moment as there are no links to them.  --[[User:Atheneoflymington|Athene of Lymington]] 15:59, 12 July 2011 (BST)

This Wiki is a seriously good idea and I'm having fun messing around in a small corner of it.  It strikes me that the biggest thing that is needed is lots more people contributing.  There is certainly enough material in place to demonstrate that this is a serious effort and worth getting involved in. I was planning to write to a few of the sailing magazines here in Oz, but don't want to work at cross purposes to anyone else who might be thinking of similar things.  Any thoughts on a publicity campaign aimed at improving the number of people involved.

Ask away! Any suggestions? Lighthouse 10:14, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Still can't get that Google Map to work, if I do then it creates code problems for the rest of the page.

Preview mode does not show up these code problems. Will have another go tomorrow.

Robin

I'll put it in for you and then you can see from the code how I've done it. Lighthouse 16:36, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Communication pages

I need to get moving on a few other tasks, today, before shoving off. I've made a few changes to the communications portion of the wiki. I'm hoping others can come in behind me and add their country-specific information. I'm also trying to add links to other pages to tie everything together. Hopefully I'll be able to get a few extra cycles to keep contributing. Fair winds! --Sparks 15:47, 18 February 2011 (GMT)

Great stuff! Lighthouse 16:38, 18 February 2011 (GMT)

Navbar links

I've followed your instructions (I think!) for the new Teos Marina page, which should now link to the Sigacik Region page that Istioploos created. If I've still not got the hang of it, let me know. I'm off shortly to the Sea of Marmara to update that section, so I'd hate to be still getting it wrong. --Athene of Lymington 17:40, 5 May 2011 (BST)

Perfect. It is just when you make new pages that the navbar (bottom of page) is unfinished in the template and needs the links to be inserted. Well done on all your work. Lighthouse 19:15, 5 May 2011 (BST)

New Users

Just approved my first user. Two more pending, awaiting confirmation. --Haiqu 02:13, 2 June 2011 (BST)

Good! Lighthouse 07:59, 2 June 2011 (BST)

Chartlet

I'm finding the chartlet useless outside US mainland. Entered the co-ords for Melbourne and got all of Tasmania & Victoria and half of NSW at full zoom! --Haiqu 07:20, 3 June 2011 (BST)

True. It does however work for a number of regions outside the US as well - depending on how countries allow the use/publication of their marine charts. There seems to be no alternative though. Lighthouse 07:45, 3 June 2011 (BST)
Might use a link to Google maps instead for down here, although I already have that on the Australian state pages anyhow. Finding good pics without copyright is tricky. I do like Panoramio! --Haiqu 23:31, 3 June 2011 (BST)

Progress report

Huge day yesterday. I went to Special and looked at all the missing pics and links and double redirects and decided to fix them, so I did the lot. There now appears to be no country, region or major island group without a basic page with the latest template, flag and map at least. Also included a little joke for you, see if you can find it. Today I'm thinking of taking it easy, this is becoming an obsession. :-) --Haiqu 23:31, 3 June 2011 (BST)

OK, I lied. Just added all the Chinese coastal provinces, with maps. --Haiqu 06:36, 4 June 2011 (BST)

I cannot believe how much effort you have put in - fantastic to see. I will look for the joke - will be hard to find in hundreds of pages though. Lighthouse 09:49, 4 June 2011 (BST)
The joke on the New Zealand page? Lighthouse 18:42, 4 June 2011 (BST)
Nope. You'll know it when you see it. --Haiqu 08:52, 5 June 2011 (BST)
A hint? Lighthouse 09:16, 5 June 2011 (BST)
You're having me on! With all the Brisbane islands you filled in last night you must have seen it. --Haiqu 05:02, 6 June 2011 (BST)
You mean the "Fix me now" pic? (I thought that was great when I first saw it BTW) Lighthouse 08:20, 6 June 2011 (BST)
I like the eggs too. Lighthouse 14:25, 6 June 2011 (BST)
Ah, you found it! :-) --Haiqu 09:19, 12 June 2011 (BST)

Wanted Pages

In the last few days I've cut the Wanted Pages section down from 1,370 to less than 250. Pretty pleased with myself actually. I also wrote a quick "style guide" for editors and plonked it on the Homepage. --Haiqu 09:18, 12 June 2011 (BST)

Jeez Rob, I cannot believe how much (much needed) work that you have ploughed through in short time. Well done Mate! Lighthouse 09:41, 12 June 2011 (BST)
Meh, I don't have a life. I'll get one when I finally buy a yacht. --Haiqu 12:04, 18 June 2011 (BST)

Radio Nets in ZA

Seems as if Fred Meyer and Alistair Campbell both went SK recently, and VK6BO Roy in Perth is holding the ball for now. He's an old bloke, maybe someone needs to step up and fill the gap over there - just saying. Could be a fun job for a retired sailor. HiHi. --Haiqu 12:02, 18 June 2011 (BST)

Rob, I do have a radio but I am just about as old as they are/were and not interested in tying myself up again. I'm trying to retire gracefully now and spend my time on other (less demanding) interests. LOL! Lighthouse 14:32, 18 June 2011 (BST)

Venice

Hi Bob

I'm afraid someone has really screwed up the Venice section, which I spent over two weeks creating. The table of marinas and ports in the Venice lagoon has been moved to a new section headed 'The Venetian Lagoon', which seems totally unnecessary, but in doing so all the links have been removed, so that you can't now access from the Venice OR the new 'Venetian Lagoon' page any of the details of the marinas or ports. Obviously, this renders the whole section useless.

Could I ask you to investigate and, if possible, restore the old page? We're returning from Athene of Lymington to the UK tomorrow, so I can do some further work on the section if necessary. We're also planning to cruise the Adriatic coast next year as far as Venice, so I hope to update it properly then.

Cheers.

GORDON

Hi Gordon. I moved the table to the "Venetian Lagoon" page because the Venice page may get too large - Wiki warning: Warning: This page is 46 kilobytes long; some browsers may have problems editing pages approaching or longer than 32kb. Please consider breaking the page into smaller sections. I have copied the table back to the Venice page but have left the "Venetian Lagoon" page as is for now as well as all the links to the "Lagoon" page on the "Venice" section until you can get back to considering the options. I love the table you made. I could not find the "links" for marinas and ports you mention in the page's "history". Great contributions Gordon! Lighthouse 11:05, 12 July 2011 (BST)

--Athene of Lymington 15:59, 12 July 2011 (BST)
