Anchor inside the breakwater in 4.0 metres.  The holding is good in sand and mud.  Shelter is good in most conditions except strong S/SE winds, when the whole bay is very uncomfortable.  It may also be possible to go alongside the breakwater towards the root if there is space, but this should not be relied on.  On the W and E sides of the bay there are small craft harbours with pontoons, but the depths here are too shallow for most yachts.

The bay of Stobrec from NW

The bay of Stobreč (uvala Stobreč) is located in 4 NM E from Split and 10 miles NW of the small harbour of Omis. At the head of the bay there is at the mouth of the river Zrnovnica.

On its W shore lies a small village and resort of Stobreč. Built on a scenic peninsula during the Hellenic period, the village still bears some remains of its former Greek defensive walls. The village’s other claim to fame is as the location for the nearby discovery of a sarcophagus inscription dating from the 3rd century AD and recording the achievements of Lucius Artorius Castus, a Roman commander formerly based in Britain and, according to some sources, the inspiration for the legend of King Arthur.

The bay of Stobrec offers a good anchorage except in strong southerlies and the bay itself is most attractive.

Navigation

The bay of Stobrec is easily identified on the approach from the village houses clustered on the peninsula. A rough breakwater extends for a short distance on the W side of the bay. There are rocky ledges extending 50 metres off the peninsula, which should be given a generous clearance if approaching from W. The breakwater itself has some damaged sections extending underwater from the visible end and this should be given a clearance on the approach of at least 100 metres.

Berthing

Stobrec is best regarded as a sheltered anchorage in the prevailing northerly winds.

At the E side of the bay is located a small harbour operated by the sport fishing club "Strožanac" (Društvo športskih ribolovaca "Strožanac"). There are 320 berths there with depths 2-4 m. Max. LOA: 12 m. It's unknown whether they are accepting visiting boats.

Replica of inscription from Lucius tomb where discovered

Above the village on a hill are a few remains of the former Greek citadel, while a gate in the village is claimed to be only one of its kind preserved in the Adriatic. A replica of the sarcophagus inscription of Lucius Artorius Castus is set into a wall close to the neighbouring coastal village of Podstrana.
