Victoria is the capital of the province of British Columbia, Canada and the oldest city on the west coast of Canada. It is located near the southern tip of Vancouver Island. It is a medium-sized (approx. 350,000 in Greater Victoria, including the Saanich Peninsula) and beautiful city. Nicknamed the Garden City for Butchart Gardens and much green space. It is also said to lie within the world's most northern Mediterranean climate at a latitude of 48.5° North.

The Victoria Harbour Authority has maps online showing the route for to entering the harbour to stay out of the heavy float plane landing strip. The strip is marked by yellow buoys.

Port of Entry

Causeway hosts pleasure vessels, up to 60' (18m) year-round. Victoria's historic downtown, summer festivals, artists, backers, and crafters are only a few steps away. Ship Point is GVHA's luxury yacht and large vessel facility. Ship Point offers slips that can accommodate vessels from 58' (17 m) up to 250' (76.2 m). Water, electricity, toilets, showers, laundry (in the summer), WiFi. Customs clearance can be arranged.

Note: Visitor stay may be limited to 72 hours during the summer.

Port of Entry

Fisherman's Wharf is a unique marine destination with a distinct flavour. Working fishing vessels, pleasure boats with live-aboard residents, float homes and commercial businesses are all moored at the docks. The wharf is a great destination for those seeking fresh fish or seafood. Many shops.

Note: There is no transient moorage available at Fisherman's Wharf, but it may be possible to find space in the summer months when the fishing boats are away.

The Royal Victoria Yacht Club was founded in June 1892 and is the oldest yacht club in western Canada. It has 256 slips for boats up to 58' (17 m). Visitors can moor on reciprocal basis. Water, electricity, toilets, showers, laundry, recycling facilitie. Members workshops with power tools. Cranes for lifting boats up to 10,000 lbs. and one up to 2,000 lbs. Dining facilities and events open to Members and their guests only.

  • Local public transportation is run by the Victoria Regional Transit System, which is part of BC Transit.
  • Passenger rail service previously operated by Via Rail provided a single daily return trip along between Victoria – Courtenay, along the eastern coast of Vancouver Island
  • Due to Victoria's mild year round weather with mostly rainy winters, commuting by bicycle is practical year-round compared to other Canadian cities. For this reason, the Greater Victoria area had the highest rate of bicycle commuting to work of any census metropolitan area in Canada
