Zdrelac harbour breakwater from NW

The hamlet of Zdrelac lies on the NE coast of the island of Pasman in Croatia, just under a mile SE of the Prolaz Mali Zdrelac, the channel dividing Pasman from its close neighbour, Ugljan. There is a small harbour off the hamlet, formed by an L-shaped E breakwater and short W one 100 metres to the north. Like most of the harbours along this coast, Zdrelac is relatively shallow and only accessible to shallow and moderate draft yachts.

Weather

Diurnal winds among the islands are mostly moderate during the summer months, predominantly from NW and rarely exceeding force 4/5, although gusting is common in narrow channels between islands and on the lee side of headlands. At night, katabatic winds off the mountains affect some of the islands close to the mainland coast. During early spring and (especially) autumn conditions can be more unsettled, occasionally accompanied by violent thunderstorms - luckily of short duration - with winds of 30-35 knots or more and vicious, steep seas. In the winter the sudden, violent N wind off the mountains, the bora, is much to be feared, especially along the coast from Rijeka down to Zadar, although its effects can be felt as far south as Split.

Equally prevalent in winter - although not uncommon in summer - is the scirocco, a S/SE wind that blows up from North Africa, usually in advance of a depression moving E across the Mediterranean. Unlike the bora, the scirocco only occasionally exceeds gale force, but is still a phenomenon to be wary of, especially if on a lee coast.

Routes/Passages To/From

See Croatia.

Navigation

There are no dangers in the immediate approach to Zdrelac, other than the relatively shallowness of the depths in the approach, which decrease from 4.0 metres off the W breakwater to just over 2.5 metres at the head of the inner, E breakwater. Shelter is good in winds from W round to S, but the harbour is open N and E.

Entrance

Zadar is the nearest all-year round port of entry, or Sibenik if arriving from S. During the summer, Sali on Dugi Otok and Primosten on the mainland are also ports of entry.

Berthing

==Berthing==options in Zdrelac harbour are limited. The best depths of 2.5 metres are on the end of the ‘dogleg’ E breakwater, just inside the port marker on the end of it. However, this position is regularly used by fishing and other commercial vessels and you may be asked to move. Alternatively, moor alongside on the inner side of the breakwater if there is space. Again, this is often used by fishing boats. Shelter here is good except with strong N or E winds.

Marinas & Yacht Clubs

None.

Anchorages

It is possible to anchor off in the harbour in 3.0 - 4.0 metres, being careful not to obstruct access to the mini harbour inside the breakwater. Holding here is moderate to good in sand and weed. Shelter good except in strong N or E winds.

Yacht Repairs and Services

None.

Fuel, Water, & Electricity

There is no fuel berth, water or electricity in the harbour.
