The harbour of Grscica from SW

The small harbour of Grscica lies on the S coast of the island of Korčula in Croatia, six miles E of the SW tip of the island and a mile W of the harbour of Prižba. The inlet in which it sits is partially protected from SW by the sickle-shaped islet of Kosor/wiki/Gr%C5%A1%C4%87ica#KosorIsland icon Kosor Kosor 42°54.066'N, 016°45.724'E half a mile offshore.

There is not a lot of space in Grscica, which is popular with leisure fishermen. In settled weather, however, it is a peaceful and unfrequented port of call when sailing along the S coast of Korcula Island.

There are islets and shoal patches just off the coast both to the E and W of Grscica and careful attention to the chart is needed on the approach.

Danger: Note that there are shoal patches on both sides of the of O. Kotor, the sickle-shaped island SW of Grscica bay (Nshoal/wiki/Gr%C5%A1%C4%87ica#NshoalDanger icon Nshoal Nshoal 42°54.232'N, 016°45.733'E and SE shoal/wiki/Gr%C5%A1%C4%87ica#SE_shoalDanger icon SE shoal SE shoal 42°53.960'N, 016°46.080'E ).

Also, careful navigation is needed as there is a rocky and unmarked shoal patch/wiki/Gr%C5%A1%C4%87ica#shoal_patchDanger icon shoal patch shoal patch 42°54.438'N, 016°46.468'E in the middle of the harbour.

Vela Luka is the nearest year-round port of entry.

The quay in the small harbour of Grscica

Harbour icon Quay Quay 42°54.473'N, 016°46.541'E
The best berth for a visiting yacht is on the quay immediately NW of the slipway and the conspicuous white crane on the E side of the harbour. There are a couple of small craft moorings here, but it is possible with care for 2-3 yachts to anchor and take a line to the quay. Be careful to approach the quay close in along the NW shore of the inlet to avoid the rocky shoal patch/wiki/Gr%C5%A1%C4%87ica#shoal_patchDanger icon shoal patch shoal patch 42°54.438'N, 016°46.468'E in the middle of the harbour with just over a metre depths which lies around 75 metres SW of the quay. Depths at the quay itself are 4.0 - 5.0 metres. The holding is good in sand and weed (as long as you avoid the rocky patch!). Shelter in the harbour is good except with anything S in the wind. Grscica is completely open SW.

Anchorage icon U. Duboka U. Duboka 42°54.448'N, 016°46.313'E
In settled conditions, it is possible to anchor in the little cove on the N side of the inlet, 200 metres W of the quay, in depths of 5.0 - 6.0 metres, with a line ashore. Holding is good in sand and weed. The shelter is adequate in moderate winds but the anchorage is open to anything S in the wind.
