More notes about the marina

Marina Tenerife is the Northern Marina in the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It is the original Marina and was formally known as Darsena Pesquera. This is still the name of the large dock that encloses the Marina. It is immediately to starboard as you approach the dock and the smaller berths are first and larger berths further down into the basin. Most cruising guides recommend booking ahead but this appears to be problematic as english language emails are not answered and english is seldom available for phone calls.

Communication

Contact the marina on the VHF channel 9 (calling sign: "Marina Tenerife") Office Hours only which appear to be 9 am until 4 pm

Navigation

The approach to Marina Tenerife is straightforward, no dangers.

Entrance

Marina Tenerife is a port of entry for Canary Islands. For details see Entrance: Canary Islands.

Berthing

There is no waiting pontoon. If arriving outside office hours look for a suitable berth and wait until staff are available to allocate an appropriate berth. There are very few visitors berths and those that do exist seem to be taken up by local boats. If you do manage to contact the marina staff they will assist berthing.

Facilities

  • Clean Toilets and Showers
  • WiFi available near to office
  • Small cafe/bar open 10am to 5pm Tuesday to Thursday, 10am to 6pm Friday and Saturday and closed all day Monday. Only Spanish spoken
  • Water and Power at pontoons
  • Bins at each pontoon
  • No lift out at marina but available in the boatyard in the northern part of the dock

Repairs

  • There is a very good repair yard in the dock. Reports from users are very favourable and english is spoken. They have a waiting pontoon in the North East corner but pre arrange berthing is required

Security

This is a very quiet locals only area and reported to be a good place to leave a yacht. There is no security on the pontoons but CCTV and locked gate to marina complex. The gate is open 9 am to 6 pm with a push button to call the marina to open the gate out of hours. This is not always done promptly.

Location

The marina is far away from local services which is one of its charms. There are no shops and only a small cafe/bar. The walk to the bus stop is 10 to 15 minutes away but once there busses run into Santa Cruz every 10 minutes or so. The journey takes about half an hour and costs 1.25 Euro. Be aware that if returning by Taxi the drivers do not recognise Marina de Tenerife as the name of the Marina. If you ask for this you are more than likely to be taken to the Southern Marina of Marina de Santa Cruz. You will need to ask for the Marina at "Darsena Pesquera". The town of San Andres is 4km North East and has some local shops and restaurants and one of Tenerife's best beaches.

Transportation

  • Regular bus service to Santa Cruz the capital
  • International airport at Tenerife North about 20km from Marina. Bus lines 102, 108, and 109 go from Tenerife North Airport to Santa Cruz
  • International airpot at Tenerife South about 60km from Marina. Bus Line 341 connects Tenerife South Airport with Santa Cruz
