Navigation

The island is separated from the mainland on its E side by the mile-wide channel of the Pasmanski Kanal and connected at its northernmost tip to the neighbouring island of Ugljan by a bridge navigable by small to moderate sized yachts.

Like its close neighbour Ugljan, Pasman Island is orientated SE/NW and the majority of its harbours are on the mainland-facing, NE side of the island and its anchorages mostly on the open sea-facing, SW side.

All the harbours are relatively shallow and a yacht using them will find depths at the quays of 2.0 - 2.5 metres only. Larger or deeper draft yachts need to use the anchorages, where greater depths can be found, or one of the nearby mainland harbours, such as Zadar, Sukošan or Biograd, especially in heavy weather. The main settlement of the island, Pašman (town), is situated about halfway down the NW side, just W of the islet of Babac.

Danger: Mali Ždrelac/wiki/Pa%C5%A1man#Mali_.C5.BDdrelacDanger icon Mali Ždrelac Mali Ždrelac (Prolaz Mali Ždrelac) 44°00.852'N, 015°15.081'E is a small strait between the islands of Ugljan and Pašman. The bridge over it has a clearance of only 16.5 metres. Also beware of currents running through it due to either tides or weather conditions.

Entrance

Zadar is the nearest all-year round port of entry, or Šibenik if arriving from S. During the summer, Sali on Dugi Otok and Primošten on the mainland are also ports of entry.

Berthing

There are a total of nine principal berthing options on Pašman Island, the harbours of Pašman (town), Banj, Zdrelac and Tkon and an anchorage, U. Gnal, on the NE side of the island, and four other anchorages, Prolaz Mali Zdrelac, U. Sv. Ante, U. Soline and U. Landin on the N and SW sides of the island.

Prolaz Mali Zdrelac

Prolaz Mali Zdrelac/wiki/Pa%C5%A1man#Prolaz_Mali_Zdrelac
Anchorage icon Prolaz Mali Zdrelac Prolaz Mali Zdrelac 44°00.917'N, 015°15.576'E
Prolaz Mali Zdrelac is the channel situated at the northern tip of the island, between it and Ugljan Island. The channel is crossed by a lifting road bridge with a maximum clearance of 16.5 metres. The anchorage lies on the NE side of the bridge and therefore should not be approached from the SW side unless your mast (and aerials!) give you an air draft of less than that. Either pick up one of the mooring buoys in the bay on the N side of the channel in depths of 3.0 - 4.0 metres, or anchor in similar depths on the S side, clear of the wrecks lining the shore. Holding is good in mud and shelter is very good in all conditions. Note that ferries regularly charge through the channel here and have right of way over yachts. Strong currents also flow through the channel at certain states of tide.

U. Sv. Ante

Anchorage icon U. Sv. Ante U. Sv. Ante 43°56.042'N, 015°20.837'E
The anchorage of U. Sv. Ante lies on the SW coast of the island, just over a mile due E of the small islet of Sit. It offers good shelter in all but W and S winds. The bay takes its name from the small pre-Romanesque church of Sv. Ante on the E side of the inlet. Pick up one of the mooring buoys laid here or anchor towards the head of the inlet in depths of 5.0 - 6.0 metres. The holding is good in sand and weed. A mooring charge is made.

U. Soline

Anchorage icon U. Soline U. Soline 43°55.444'N, 015°21.712'E
U. Soline is located on the SW coast of Pasman Island, immediately SE of the anchorage of U. Sv. Ante on the other side of a short headland. The bay is more or less T-shaped and offers two excellent anchorages in the two ‘arms’ of the T. Anchor either in the N or S arm in 5.0 - 6.0 metres. The holding in both cases is good in sand and weed. Alternatively pick up one of the moorings buoys provided. Shelter is both arms is very good, and the choice for a visiting yacht will depend on the wind direction, the N arm being more comfortable in N winds and vice versa. U. Soline is a very popular anchorage and a mooring charge is made. There are three restaurants at the southern end of the bay.

U. Landin

Anchorage icon U. Landin U. Landin 43°54.670'N, 015°23.135'E
The anchorage of U. Landin is the easternmost of two deep adjoining inlets at the SW end of the island, a mile N of the small islet of Kosara. At its W entrance is a small islet, O. Landinic, joined to the headland by a shallow spit with 4.0 metres over it. There are mooring buoys laid at the head of the inlet in 3.0 - 5.0 metres. Either pick one up or anchor clear of the buoys in 6.0 - 8.0 metres. The holding is good in sand and weed. Shelter here is good in all conditions except strong S winds. Restaurant ashore. If the anchorage is full, it is also possible to anchor in the westernmost of the two inlets, although depths are much greater and it is advisable to take lines ashore.

U. Gnal

U. Gnal/wiki/Pa%C5%A1man#U._Gnal
Anchorage icon U. Gnal U. Gnal 43°53.642'N, 015°27.252'E
U. Gnal is a quiet cove situated on the SE coast of the island, barely half a mile from its extreme SE tip and two miles due W of the mainland harbour and anchorage of Pakostane. The cove is sheltered from all except NE and E winds. Anchor in 4.0 - 5.0 metres in the NW part of the cove (the SE part has a partially sunken wreck), with a line ashore if preferred. Holding is good in sand and weed. A restaurant opens here during the season.

Tourism

Pasman’s clear waters make it a popular diving destination

History

Give a short history of the island.

Places to Visit

Traditionally a fishing and agricultural community, with emphasis on olive oil, grape and vegetable production, Pasman has developed a thriving tourism industry in recent years in view of its proximity to the Kornati Islands as well as its own unspoiled scenery and sandy beaches. In view of the island’s lack of marinas or deep water harbours, it is less frequented by the cruising community than many of the other islands and thus marginally more peaceful during the busy summer season. See individual port pages for further details.
