Racisce harbour from NW

The small harbour of Luka Račišće lies on the N coast of the island of Korčula in Croatia, separated from the W end of the long Peljesac Peninsula on the mainland by a mile-wide channel. The bay is around five miles W of the facilities of Korčula (town), which are easily accessible by bus.

The village of Račišće is built around the natural amphitheatre of the bay and surrounded by forested hills. Its harbour provides a peaceful alternative to the bustle of Korčula Town during the busy summer months and shelter is good in any but northerly winds.

There are no dangers in the approach to Luka Račišće. A war memorial on the headland on the NE side of the bay is a useful marker. The harbour at the head of the bay is protected by a long jetty on the SW side of the bay, marked with a green starboard beacon.

Korčula (town) is the nearest year-round port of entry.

The best berthing option for a visiting yacht is to go stern or bows-to the jetty on the W side of the bay using the anchor. Depths here are 4.0 - 5.0 metres and the holding is good in sand and weed. However, there are reports that the bottom is foul in parts of the harbour, so it may be wise to buoy the anchor (or watch very carefully where you drop it). Alternatively, if the harbour is not busy, it may be possible to go alongside. The shelter is good in all but fresh to strong winds from NW round to NE.

It is possible to anchor off in the bay immediately E of the end of the breakwater, although depths here are 12 - 15 metres. Holding is good in sand and weed. The shelter is good in all but fresh to strong winds from NW round to NE.

The village is pleasant and a nice place to ‘chill out’ rather than a must-see destination.
