More notes about the marina

St. Peters Marine is a very well sheltered marina which is full of character and close to Newcastle Quayside, Gateshead Quays and Newcastle City Center. It is entered from the River Tyne through a lifting bridge which can be self operated. The marina has an automatic cill which is raised on the bottom half of the tide and retains a designed depth of 2 meters in the Marina, though with silting this is often somewhat less.

Communication

  • VHF Channel 80

Navigation

The marina lies on the northern bank of the river 0.75 nautical miles west of St. Anthonys Point. It lies among a housing estate and can be identified by the distinctive yellow marina 'control' tower immediately east of the lifting bridge. Call the marina on VHF 80 or phone them on +44 191 265 4472 to ask for the bridge to be opened. Out of working hours it may be necessary to moor on the waiting pontoon and self activate the bridge lift from the yellow control box mounted on the shore above the waiting pontoon.

Take care when using the waiting pontoon on spring tides. The depth is approximately 0.2 meters below chart datum. There is about 0.5 meters of mud below so the hard river bed lies at about 0.7 meters below chart datum.
