  • We spent 3 nights in Marina di Brindisi in April 2013. We chose it over Legale Nevale due to its proximity on the map to the airport. It turns out that the drive to the airport involves going almost into town and then out again. Nothing wrong with the marina, but next visit we will try and get a berth at Legale Navale. --Zebahdy of London
  • Sept 2014 Based on information from a friend who had visited in the spring, we anchored outside the Marina di Brindisi next to the castle. A RIB from the marina asked us to move a bit further south, next to the castle, and that it was OK to anchor there. We dinghied into town to check in with customs etc. having come from Montenegro. The next morning we were approached by the coast guard who told us we could not anchor there, and had to move. Based on information in Rod Heikel's book AND an Austrian yacht that was, at that very time, tied up to the town quay for free, we asked if we could go to the town quay. They said, "No" there were no free berths there. This despite the fact that at the time the dock was completely empty except for the one Austrian boat who had, he told us, received the OK from the harbourmaster (25m away) to tie up there for free, and had done so on 5 previous occasions. The coast guard insisted we had to go into the marina, which cost us 39 euro for the night and is a 20 minute bus ride from the town. The next day we went into town, and again spoke with the coast guard in person. They said, no problem, we could come and tie up to the town quay for one night. So we did. Had the winds been more moderate we would have just moved on to Otranto. Unfortunately we did not feel their English was good enough to try to have a discussion about what happened yesterday, but we were not impressed to say the least. Brindisi itself is nothing special. We took the one-hour map-guided tour and feel we have seen all we need to see.
