Tenerife (/tɛnəˈriːf/; Spanish: [teneˈɾife]) is the largest and most populated island of the seven Canary Islands. It is also the most populated island of Spain, with a land area of 2,034.38 square kilometres (785 sq mi) and 898,680 inhabitants, 43 percent of the total population of the Canary Islands.

Transportation

  • Tenerife Norte (Los Rodeos). (TFN IATA) Most services in this airport are from the mainland of Spain
  • Tenerife Sur (Reina Sofia). (TFS IATA) Named after the ex-Queen of Spain this is by far the busier of the two airports
  • Trasmediterranea run a weekly ferry from Cadiz in Spain which takes two days
  • There are also ferries to the other Canary Islands, going to Gran Canaria from Santa Cruz de Tenerife (about €80 return) and La Gomera from Los Cristianos
  • A rental car is the best option for discovering the remote regions of the island
