Started sailing aged around 30 yrs when my then girlfriends father needed crew on a Wayfarer for racing. Really enjoyed the experience but got a bit bored going around and around and around. Luckily I was invited to join a crazy person in taking a Wayfarer across the Irish Sea to Wicklow from Barmouth (via Bardsea Island). Force 7 winds and interesting wave action in a 16' open boat really got me interested in sailing and we did a few more long distance trips. Then I decided to try this stuff in a bigger boat so I took my competent crew course (RYA) in Southampton (UK) and was invited to do some yacht delivery work. This kind of morphed into a Transat (ARC) and I've been sailing ever since. Currently building funds working as a dreaded Health and Safety Manager in the UK and spare time refitting a 44' Ketch. In four more years my youngest child will (hopefully) bugger off and leave my wife and I free to grow old at sea.
