Started sailing at age 11 with a home built canoe equipped with home made mainsail and jib. As teenager sailed a Flying Dutchman, then in later years a Fireball and Sonnet. Wants to buy a classic yacht, but wife hates sailing. Licensed radio amateurs since 1986, and is a member of the South African Maritime Mobile Net (SAMMNet). SAMMNet transmits marine weather to sailors equipped with amateur radio transceivers in METAREA VII and also communicates with yachts at sea and assists where required.
