Montserrat is a British Overseas Territory located in the Caribbean. The island is located in the Leeward Islands, part of the chain of islands known as the Lesser Antilles in the West Indies.
Montserrat Yachting Association has been established for the purpose of developing the yachting in Montserrat, with strong commitment to promoting the flag of Montserrat around the globe.
Montserrat Yachting Association is a Member of the African Yachting Association (AYA).
Montserrat Yachting Association is registered in Monserrat (registration number is 01/2014) and licenced by Financial Services Commission (company management licence number is CM01/2014).
PRESIDENT of Montserrat Yachting Association, Serge Iantchichine, is Barbados Ship Registrar, Barbados Nautical Inspector and Assistant Deputy Maritime Administrator of Commonwealth of Dominica.
Our CHIEF EXAMINER is Vitaliy Mikhalyuk, Principal of Sigma-Marine Yachting School. Sigma-Marine is authorised by IYT to train yachtsmen of all recreational levels, including Yachtmaster Ocean. Also Sigma-Marine is an organiser of regattas in Greece and Turkey. Vitaliy is certified Master of Yachts up to 500 GT by Ukrainian Maritime Administration, GMDSS Restricted Operator by Ukrainian Maritime Administration, Captain of Yacht (Sailing and Motor) by Ukrainian Safety Shipping River Inspectorate, Yachtmaster Offshore (Sail) by IYT. Vitaliy graduated from Odessa Higher Engineering Maritime School in 1984.
Our INSTRUCTOR OF NAVIGATION, Mr. Shawn O'Garro, holds a BSc in Maritime Business with Maritime Law from the University of Plymouth, UK. He is also a graduate of the Jamaica Maritime Institute having completed the Marine Apprentice Pilot and Electronic Navigation Systems Courses among other STCW training. He has successfully completed the Caribbean Ship Inspector Training Course organized by the International Maritime Organization in co-operation with the Maritime Services Division of Trinidad & Tobago and USCG. Shawn also successfully completed the DFT Maritime Security Instructors Course for the UK Overseas Territories by the UK Department of Transport.
Our SEA SAFETY MANAGER is Mr. Peter Robert Ainsworth, RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore and Powerboat Instructor, Drascombe Association Member, Past President and Commodore of Aberdaron Sailing Club, Governor and Lifeboat Sea Safety Officer of Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and Sea Safety Advisor Trainer.
