The harbour of Zavalatica from N

The small harbour of Zavalatica is situated on the S coast of the island of Korčula in Croatia, three miles ENE of the harbour of Brna. The harbour is at the head of an S-facing inlet, partially protected by a breakwater extending from the W side of the inlet. It offers a useful port of call for yachts cruising the S coast of the island and has good shelter in all but S winds. However, mooring options are limited as the harbour is packed with moorings along most of its quayed area.

There are no dangers in the approach. The harbour is situated on the W side of a wooded peninsula, extensively developed with holiday homes, that protects it from the E. Depths in the approach are 10.0 -12.0 metres and in the harbour range from 2.0 metres on the quays to 7.0 metres in the centre of the harbour.

Korčula (town) is the nearest year-round port of entry.

The jetty at Zavalatica is the only mooring option for yachts

The only suitable berth for a visiting yacht is on the inside of the breakwater jetty at the SW end of the harbour, where there is space for 4-5 yachts moored stern or bows-to using their anchors. Depths along the jetty range from 2.0 metres at the root to 6.0 metres at the outer end. In effect, it is not possible to moor near the root as there are small craft moorings along the adjacent quay. If the harbour is quiet or outside the busy summer season it may be possible to lie alongside. There are a limited number of bollards on the jetty (just three), so it is easier lying alongside than on anchor-moor. Shelter on the jetty is good except in S winds when there is an unpleasant swell in the harbour.

It is not possible to anchor off the harbour in view of the depths.

The village ashore is attractive and there are some good walks in the hills around, but otherwise, there is little to do here.
