Check-in facilities
Kouremenos is an indifferent anchorage and subject to fierce gusts.
Anchor as close to the shore as possible, in 2-3 m depth, so that you can be as protected from the wind as possible. A second anchor is advisable.
Warning: The bottom is rocky so be aware that anchors can foul. If possible, use a trip line.

Anchorages
Vai
Vai is the location of the famous palm grove beach, where a stand of palm trees of a species unique to Crete thrives in a sandy bay sheltered from the prevailing northwesterly winds. Yachts are permitted to anchor outside the line of buoys marking the swimming area, although this position exposes a yacht to the noise and wash from a horde of jetskis, banana boats and water skiers. A better anchorage is just to the north of the small islet next to the bay, where you can anchor in 5-7 meters in sand and go ashore in the dinghy to a narrow, fine shingle beach which is often deserted. Pedalos may come round to check out what you are up to but they usually go away if you growl at them.
NOTE: Beware of the shallows extending for around 50 meters all around the island. Shelter here is good from the prevailing northwesterlies but the bay is exposed to anything from the east.
