The small harbour of Stazzo lies 10 miles north of Catania and 6 miles south of Riposto in Sicily. In summer four pontoons are installed inside the breakwater, creating berths for up to 150 small yachts (maximum 10.0 metres). Shelter in the harbour is adequate in settled weather, but strong winds from E round to SW send in a swell. The harbour is untenable in strong southerlies. | The small harbour of Stazzo lies 10 miles north of Catania and 6 miles south of Riposto in Sicily. The small harbour of Stazzo - Click for larger view |

Local Weather
Prevailing winds on the east coast of Sicily are NE during the summer. During spring and winter winds are often from SE and W in addition to NE. Strong SE winds can make several of the harbours along this coast uncomfortable and even untenable.
Sources for weather forecasts:
- There is a continuous (computerised voice) weather forecast on VHF 68 - first in Italian and then followed with an English translation
- The same forecast is given in Italian and English on VHF coastal stations following a notification on channel 16
- Navtex weather forecasts are broadcast from stations at Roma, Cagliari (Sardinia) and Augusta (Sicily)
The harbour of Stazzo lies under steep cliffs and is not easy to identify until close in, when the outer breakwater is clearly visible. Night entry is not advised as the harbour is unlit. There are several rocky outcrops on the west side of the harbour which restrict movement around the pontoons.
Berthing Options
