More notes about the Marina |
Porto Marmareo (also known as Porto Piccolo) is the old harbour of Siracusa in Sicily at the north end of Ortigia island, now given greater protection by two long breakwaters. There is rarely space here for yachts in transit.
Marina radio contact
None.
The Pizzo rocks extend nearly 400 metres off the coast on the approach to the harbour from the north. Porto Marmareo is entered from ENE, being careful to avoid the shallows either side of the entrance. Depths in the entrance are 3.0 - 4.0 metres and maximum depths inside the harbour are 3.0 metres. A narrow channel connects the harbour to the bay of Siracusa to the west of Ortigia island, but is only navigable by small craft.
Berthing
There is no berthing assistance. It is advisable not to simply occupy a vacant berth as there is no provision here for yachts in transit.
Marina facilities
The catwalks in the harbour are operated by five separate private yacht clubs. There is usually no space here for visiting yachts unless by prior arrangement.
Repairs/Yard
None.
Security
Poor.
Marina Location
The harbour is immediately between the old and new towns and provides good access to both.
Transport
- Buses to Catania and Messina
- Daily long-distance bus to Rome
- Trains to Messina and onwards to mainland
Price
Provide price information. (If possible add a link to the marina's pricing page.)
Contact
Each of the catwalks/pontoons is operated by a different organization. There is usually no-one in attendance to advise on berthing here.
Personal experience
Post your personal experience and rating of this marina.
- It is very unlikely that you will be able to berth in here and it is in any case extremely cramped. You are better mooring on the town quay or at Marina Yachting --Athene of Lymington 13:47, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
