The breakwaters of the marina are clearly identifiable on the E side of the channel leading to Stagno di Cabras. The marina is entered from E around the end of the long breakwater that protects it from S. Yellow buoys (lit at night) indicate the deepest water. However, depths cannot be relied on and it is unwise to attempt to enter with a yacht of over 1.5 metre draft.

Anchorages
- In N winds, it is possible to anchor off the beach to the E of the marina in 3.0 - 4.0 metres. The holding is good in sand.
- In settled conditions, it is also possible to anchor off the ruins of the ancient Punic settlement at Tharros two miles SW of the marina, on the E side of the Sinis Peninsula that encloses the Gulf of Oristano. This anchorage now (2013) has some mooring bouys to help protect the eelgrass, no charge was made for these and it is preferred that they are used if staying overnight. The anchorage makes a useful break on a trip south from Alghero toward the San Pietro island group

Tourism
The settlement of Torre Grande is not particularly attractive. However, the lagoon inland from the marina, Stagno di Cabras, is rich in birdlife and is one of the most important wetlands in Sardinia. The ruins of Tharros, a city founded by Phoenicians in the 8th century BC and later occupied by the Carthaginians and Romans, are well worth a visit.
