A permit is required for the Islas Desertas; the marina will organise this for you.

Entrance
Quinta do Lorde is a port of entry into Portugal.
For more details see Portugal.
Berthing
Call the marina on Ch16 or CH09 in office hours and they send a dory out to meet you. Otherwise there is a reception pontoon on the PHS on entry. (Due to heavy damage in a storm Dec. 2013 there is no reception ponton, pontons will be repaired in Winter 2014/15). Reservation is advised (Please also cancel, or upadate your reservation to make berthing easier for other boats) The staff are very helpful and sort out the paperwork for you without fuss.
Marinas & Yacht Clubs
The harbor is organized as a marina. As of 2013 all facilities are open and the development is very attractive. There is access to the Hotel Complex and its various swimming pools. Day membership is available at 50% discount for boats berthed in the Marina. The marina staff are extremely helpful and will speed your arrival with good information on the local area. The Marina is 35K from Funchal. There is a bus which takes over an hour. Car hire facilities are available at the marina office.

- We found the marina staff very helpful indeed. They check on lines when you are away, which contributes to making this a good place to leave a boat. The fees are a little high, but probably worth the money. In June 2010 there was plenty of room in the marina. The island itself is stunning, and very well worth a visit. "Wild Heron"
- In 2014 there is not much to add to Wild Heron's experiance! We loved being here. Maybe that the Marina had lost 30% of their pontons in a storm in 2013. This will be repaired in winter 2014/15.Yemanja
