| |
Warning: Tripoli has long been affected by sectarian strife, which has from time to time escalated into street battles. This has especially affected central areas of the city. If you must go, bring a local guide to help you to stay away from dangerous areas (August 2017). |
Tripoli (Arabic: طرابلس / ALA-LC: Ṭarābulus;Lebanese Arabic: Ṭrāblos; Turkish: Trablusşam) is the largest city in northern Lebanon and the second-largest city in the country. Situated 85 kilometers (53 miles) north of the capital Beirut, it is the capital of the North Governorate and the Tripoli District.
