The port of Anchorage is not recommended for private sailboat mooring due to shifting sand an mud bars and extreme tidal currents. There is one small boat harbor that can accommodate boats at the mouth of ship Creek. The small boat harbor does not have docking facilities, just a boat ramp. Turnagain arm is subject to Bore tides, especially in the spring. Upper Cook Inlet is a very challenging place to sail, but lower cook inlet has some wonderfull places. Consult local tide tables for further information. Turnagain arm is also not recommended for small boats without significant local knowledge.

The ports of Seward, Homer, and Whittier are open year round and are welcoming to the sailing community.

Add here any background, cruising, and historical comments.
