Approach and Navigation

The approach should be made south of the prominent rocks Tris Voulakous about 150 metres west of the town. The harbour itself is too shallow for yachts and it is best to anchor off in settled weather in the bay to the northwest of the town.

Check-in facilities

Progress continues on the small harbour to the SE of the town. Most of the quays are now complete and a crane has been installed. A dive centre has been established in the harbour and local boats have already moved in. At the time of visiting (June 2009) a dredger was moored in the entrance, clearing the shallow patch which formerly intruded on the NE side. Depths at the entrance were 5 meters, although it was not possible in view of dredging operations to check the depths at the quays. If depths are suitable, Hora Sfakion will offer a welcome safe haven along this exposed south coast of Crete.
