Approach and Navigation

A well marked channel with 8'-10' at low water provides access to Ft Myers Beach. The Gulf Intracoastal Waterway also begins here and meets the Okeechobee Waterway at the mouth of the Caloosahatchee River. A drawbridge across the Intracoastal is on the northeast side of the bay opposite Ft Myers Beach.

Mariners are warned of shoals off the Sanibel lighthouse and should use only the marked channel from the Gulf when entering the Bay. The area is well protected and calm in all but stong SW winds.

Strong tidal currents are experienced inside the Ft Myers Beach harbor and caution must be used when passing under the narrow high rise bridge. Shallow waters begin immediately after passage under the high rise bridge. Hug the docks and marinas on the left.

The USCG Station Ft Myers Beach is on the left just before the high rise bridge.
