The kingdom of Jordan on the east bank of the River Jordan is a prosperous and modern muslim nation with a population of approximately 6.4 million. The previous monarch, King Hussein (1935-1999), was known to be a Ham Radio officionado, surprising his contacts on many occasions.
Jordan's only port is in the Gulf of Aqaba, which is shared with Israel, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.
