The tiny harbour of Tatinja is no more than a couple of jetties

The village of Lumbarda is situated on the NE coast of the island of Korcula in Croatia, just over two miles SE of the main harbour of the town of Korčula.

Most viziting yachts go to the Marina Lumbarda which is located at the U. Prvi Žal, just next to the village.

Alternatively in less than half a mile E of the marina at the U. Tatinja is located a tiny harbour. It offers a pleasant and cheaper alternative in settled weather to berthing in the marina and it is only a short walk around the coast to the facilities of Lumbarda itself. Shelter, however, is not at all good in winds from N round to E and the harbour should be avoided in any fresh to strong winds from those directions.

Navigation

There are no dangers in the immediate approach, once past the numerous islets that fringe the NE coast of the island. The harbour is situated on the W side of a shallow peninsula that gives it some protection from SE. Depths in the approach are 6.0 - 8.0 metres and on the outer jetty range from 1.0 metre or less at the root to 4.0 metres at the end.

Entrance

Korcula Town is the nearest year-round port of entry.

Berthing

The outer jetty at Tatinja is the only mooring option for yachts (if they can squeeze in)

The only suitable berth for a visiting yacht is on the inside of the second, outer jetty, where there are depths of just under 4.0 metres at the end. Drop anchor in 3.0 - 4.0 metres and go bows or stern-to the end of the jetty. Most of the jetty is occupied by small craft on laid moorings, but it is possible to squeeze in with care near the end. Shelter here is only moderate and the harbour should only be used in settled weather. With any threat of fresh to strong N or E winds, a yacht should evacuate immediately.

Anchorages

It is possible to anchor off at the U. Tatinja W of the jetty in depths of 5.0 - 6.0 metres. The holding is good in sand and weed. Shelter is good in winds from W through S but poor with anything N or E in the wind.
