The Ria de Corme is situated on the coast of NW Spain around 30 miles WSW of the major port of La Coruna. A wide and rather open ria, it contains two settlements, the main one of Corme on the N side and the smaller one of Laxe to the S. Both are busy fishing harbours and filled with small craft moorings (and, in the case of Corme, mussel rafts). However, there is usually room for a visiting yacht to anchor in the lee of the breakwaters at either harbour and find shelter from the prevailing winds. The towns themselves are commercial and not especially attractive, but there are some good beaches nearby.

Weather
The prevailing NW winds blow straight down in to the Ria and can raise an unpleasant swell in the outer part if they are strong. It is necessary in these conditions to tuck well in behind the breakwaters of the two harbours to get shelter. Fog can be a problem, as it is along most of this coast.

The entrance is over two miles wide and entry is possible in all weather conditions. There are, however, some 
dangerous reefs [[Ria de Corme#dangerous reefs|dangerous reefs]] 43°15.736'N, 008°57.820'W extending around half a mile off the coast to the N, though these should not present any problems as long as a yacht keeps well offshore. There are also numerous isolated rocks just off the shore on the approach from S, though a yacht would need to be foolishly close in for them to be a hazard.

It is necessary to anchor in Ria de Corme. There are no special facilities for yachts.

Anchorages
Corme
In the prevailing NW winds, Corme offers the slightly better anchorage. Anchor wherever you can find space, clear of the mussel rafts, in 5.0 – 8.0 metres. The holding is good in sand.
There are several lovely sandy coves on the E side of the harbour which can be visited in the dinghy. Shelter here is good in all but strong S winds, when the harbour of Laxe offers better shelter.Laxe

Places to Visit
The town of Corme is not particularly attractive, being modern and largely devoid of character. However, there are some pleasant sandy coves on the N and E sides of the bay.
Laxe is similarly somewhat uninspiring, although it does have a glorious sandy beach, the Enseada de Laxe.
