Developed around the 16th century castle of St Nicholas and the church of the same name, its purpose-built harbour offers berths for up to 800 vessels on 14 pontoons.  It offers a secure alternative to Palermo for cruisers wishing to leave their boats to explore the hinterland of the island.

San Nicola L'Arena is a small fishing village and tourist resort 18 miles SE of Palermo.
