St. John's is the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It is the oldest city in North America and is located on the Avalon Peninsula. It has just above 200,000 citizens, the metropolitan area is the second largest in Atlantic Canada, behind Halifax. The city spans 446.04 square kilometres (172.22 sq mi) and is North America's easternmost city.

When you are about 12 nM from the approach channel to St. John's Harbour, call St. John's Traffic on VHF channel 11.

The approaches to St John's via The Narrows (91 m) wide) are straightforward. Keep the with green leading lights passing over a depth of 11.8 m, reduced to the lowest normal tide.

You dock right downtown, against a wall surrounding this commercial harbour. Large tires line the wall. There are no floating docks, and no gates controlling access. Yachts are typically berthed in the SW part of the harbour.
You will have the opportunity to talk to whoever is walking the docks. Traffic comes and goes at all times.

| Water | Water is available from the Port, but there is a $250 connection fee. A Tourboat operator has a private hose of fresh water from the city running to the dock, and has been generous with letting cruisers use the hose to fill their tanks during tourboat season. Across the harbor, in the Fort Amherst Basin, where many fishing boats dock, there may be fresh water available. |

| Chandlers | There are several. Commercial boats and fishing boats are what the chandlers mostly sell to.
Blue Water Marine (16 Allston Street, Mount Pearl, about 10km away) is a Mercers Marine dealer, and can quickly get anything from the Mercers Marine catalog. North Atlantic Supplies (500 Water Street) is walking distance from the harbour. Newfoundland Distributors (8 Mullaly Street) has a large selection of stainless steel fasteners. |

- St. John's International Airport (YYT IATA) is located 10 km (6.2 mi) from downtown
- From mid-June through September, you can take a 14-17 hour ferry ride from North Sydney, Nova Scotia, to Argentia, Newfoundland, which is 131 km from St. John’s
- St John's is the easternmost point on Trans-Canada Highway 1, the main road across Newfoundland
