St. Kitts and Nevis is a nice day's sail from St. Maarten. Depending on wind direction, departing from Phillipsurg may help you avoid a beat. Or sail over from St. Barts, no problem.
One may clear in in Basseterre, St. Kitts, or Charlestown, Nevis. The harbour at Basseterre is a bit "industrial" and customs & immigration is at the deepwater port. Perhaps the best choice is to clear in on Nevis, and pick up a mooring off Pinney's Beach with it's several laid-back beach bar/restaurants. Cruisers tend to congregate at the Double Deuce restaurant, which is at the extreme southern end of Pinney's Beach.

Customs and Immigration
Immigration
Most countries require a visa to enter St Kitts & Nevis - see current list. Visas are not required for nationals of most West European countries, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Customs
Firearms and ammunition MUST be declared on arrival and these will be bonded by Customs.
An Import permit must be obtained in advance from the Veterinary Services for any pets.
A list of all anchorages that you intend to visit during your stay must be submitted to Customs.
Restrictions
The use of jetskis is not allowed.
Private scuba diving is not allowed.
Do not collect or purchase "Black" or any kind of corals.
Nevis only: Do not anchor - use the mooring buoys laid down. See "Nevis-Charlestown" above for details.
