The area that was once the United States Naval Base Subic Bay is now the Subic Bay Freeport Zone. For the Phillipines it is an odd area that seems to be trying to duplicate Singapore as a place safe for foreign business. As such they have made an attempt to exclude the filipino culture to the benefit of multinational corporations. Fortunately for the cruiser more comfortable with filipinos than multinational corporations all the missing culture is a short walk away in Olongapo. The Freeport has several shopping areas with malls, chain stores, franchises, large supermarkets, etc. Some of the supermarkets are stocked with large amounts of food and sundries from the United States.

Neighboring Olongapo is a busy and typical filipino city. It too has malls and all types of shops. Many industrial services are available here that are more oriented to industries other than marine but nonetheless useful to the cruiser.
