Berthing Options

Marinas & Yacht Clubs

Thessaloniki Marina in the suburb of Aretsou is the main yacht marina. It offers good shelter, with laid moorings on the quays and water and electricity at each berth. Limited hard standing is also available. Most facilities such as ATMs, shops, restaurants etc are available in the nearby suburb of Aretsou.

The marina is a good, safe place to leave a yacht while flying home from the airport at Thessaloniki. One small irritation is that the marina charges even part of a day as a full day - in other words, if you arrive at 2300 on Friday and leave at 0700 Saturday you are charged for two days! And the office to pay may close early without warning.

Anchorages

Few sheltered anchorage possibilities. You are better off in the marina. If you have to , there is fair holding just outside the marina although you may be asked to move if the clubs are having a regatta. Can be rolly.

Offshore Islands and Groups

None.

Yacht Repairs and Services

Marine Stores

Some chandlery supplies can be obtained in the local suburb of Aretsou or in Thessaloniki itself

Repairs/Yards

A crane can be arranged via the marina. Most electrical and mechanical repairs can be arranged and some chandlery supplies can be obtained in the local suburb of Aretsou or in Thessaloniki itself.

I found an excellent welder/engineer to repair my bronze/copper heat exchanger near the city centre. A family business of true craftsmen contact details are Kokkinos Welding, Email tel 2310.515.369 and about 5 minutes walk from the bus terminus.

  • Thessaloniki is an excellent place to leave a yacht for a quick trip home or for a trip to the magnificent royal tombs of the Macedonian kings at Vergina; the Mount Olympus National Park and even the wonderful monastic foundations at Meteora (see above) --Athene of Lymington 13:56, 15 April 2010 (UTC).
