A bit of a problem though: I've tried to upload a photo with a newer bridge between Ugljan and Pasman. I've made it via "Upload a new version of this file" for UgljanZdrelac.jpg‎. I was quite surprising that now UgljanZdrelac.jpg instead of this newer image still renders to the original version. Perhaps I had to just an upload under a different name rather fiddling with the old one.

Hi Vadim

I've deleted the old file, so you can upload the new one.  I suggest you rename it UgljanZdrelac2.jpg so the system doesn't try to revert to the old file.  I've found in the past that it's the easiest way to replace photos and it has the additional merit of clearing the old one from the servers.

I have restored the heading <nowiki>====Eskifoça</nowiki>==== that you had changed to <nowiki>====Foça====</nowiki>. The reason for this is that headers are used by the wiki as link labels from other pages. So, if we change the header in one page the linked pages will no longer be ab;e to refer to that label i.e. they will become "orphan links." In general one should not change headers. --[[User:Istioploos|Istioploos]] 21:17, 23 January 2015 (GMT)

: My fault -- I didn't check that. The problem though that the place is really called Foça: I was sailing with Turks then -- I don't mind though if you do insist --[[User:Vadp|Vadp]] 10:25, 24 January 2015 (GMT)

If you think that we really must change the heading, we can do so after an exhaustive search for other pages that may link to Eskifoça and change those also. Please let me know if you think we should do so. --[[User:Istioploos|Istioploos]] 13:25, 24 January 2015 (GMT)

If I can offer an opinion on this one, I'm not in favour of change.  Heikell refers to Eski Foca; Noonsite does and so do several other sailing websites.  I think we should stick with the majority if we want the Wiki entry to come up when people do Google searches. --[[User:Atheneoflymington|Athene of Lymington]] 14:34, 24 January 2015 (GMT)

: Maybe we can make a new Foça page that re-directs to Eskifoça. This will give us the best of the two. Let me look into this. --[[User:Istioploos|Istioploos]] 17:01, 24 January 2015 (GMT)

I made the re-redirect, so anyone that looks for Foça will be directed to <nowiki>====Eskifoça====</nowiki> under which both names are given. Thank you Vapp for bringing this to our attention. --[[User:Istioploos|Istioploos]] 16:45, 27 January 2015 (GMT)

It look good. Maybe we can improve it and make it easier in entering coordinates. I will use it for a while and see.--[[User:Istioploos|Istioploos]] 16:13, 13 February 2015 (GMT)

: Glad you found it useful. The problem with coords that it's not possible to use maths in this version of Mediawiki, otherwise "|lat=123.1233|lon=23.789" would look much better and could be reused easily --[[User:Vadp|Vadp]] 16:30, 13 February 2015 (GMT)

I see that now you use the poi template in places where coordinates are not needed i.e. parking lots and facilities (for example see [[Port Tino Rossi]]). In many places (poi with inline  * Car parking {{poi inline |41|55.672|N|008|44.414|E|
+
-
| type= facilities
+
-
| name= Parking

}}) it just adds the the graphic without coordinates. Rather confusing.--[[User:Istioploos|Istioploos]] 01:30, 20 March 2015 (GMT)

: One of the ideas ([[Talk:Port_Tino_Rossi]]) is future dynamic maps could use this feature, but there is yet another idea: in a version of this wiki converted for offline use with Kiwix these point contain links in <code>geo:lat,lon</code> format which can be opened at a mobile device and bring up a map application displaying that location --[[User:Vadp|Vadp]] 23:18, 20 March 2015 (GMT)

: On the other hand such a POI is not specific for navigation, so perhaps it's not essential to render it's coordinates on a display --[[User:Vadp|Vadp]]

Dear Vadim

One note on Image size in [[Isole Egadi]] and other pages you have recently edited. It just a cosmetic issue. If the infobox table has an Image sized the usual 350px. Images outside of the infobox also sized 350px look larger. The fix for this is to keep the 350 in the box and specify 345px on images outside any boxes.

: My apologies, Vasilis: I've made (wrongly) a copy-paste. Please let me know if these are some other articles are to be fixed: I had a look at some of my earlier edits and found some similar issues (made by someone else). That's why I think templates are useful, and, you're right, people need to know how to use them. --[[User:Vadp|Vadp]] 17:01, 18 February 2015 (GMT)

: Yes, [[Santa Teresa Gallura]] is looking quite messy: I think infobox should contain only one image. --[[User:Vadp|Vadp]]

I see that you have been busy creating a number of clever and useful Templates. Most of our users are not even aware of Templates. So, I have been thinking that it would be very useful if we create a master page that contains all of our templates names and a brief description. This page then can be linked from the general [[Help:Contents|Help]] page.

: Hi Vasilis, This is a good idea indeed. The thing though that these templates are quite unstable yet (some are to be deleted). For example, a list of types POIs needs to be devised somehow. The other thing these infobox templates are they good enough to be introduced to a wider audience? Perhaps some special place for discussions like this would be useful. --[[User:Vadp|Vadp]] 16:49, 18 February 2015 (GMT)

: How is about something like this: [[Help:Embeddable templates]]?

I think we should wait until you finish with your recent template creation and then go ahead with a page that lists them along with a link and brief description of what they are for. I will make a draft of this unless you want to try it. Them we will refer to it (Embeddable templates) as you suggest in the general help page. --[[User:Istioploos|Istioploos]] 21:12, 19 February 2015 (GMT)

I see that you have added a line for "Hours". That is useful. But you have omitted "More notes about the Marina" which is a catch all for more info that if included in individual items will make the box too wide. --[[User:Istioploos|Istioploos]] 01:40, 20 March 2015 (GMT)

:I've just tested -- it's there (sort of): you need to type something into "note" parameter. Do you think it should be arranged some other way? --[[User:Vadp|Vadp]] 09:33, 20 March 2015 (GMT)

I tested it too and you are right the "note" parameter does work. I think that you should modify the doc templates to explicitly include the "chartlet" parameter in case we find a suitable chartlet. This will allow explicit editing in the future. By the way I tested this inclusion and it does work. Vasilis --[[User:Istioploos|Istioploos]] 13:34, 20 March 2015 (GMT)
+
-
:That's right: "chartlet" parameter was missed at the examples at [[Template:Infobox_marina/doc]], thanks for spotting that. BTW How do you feel about optional parameters like "note"? Should we have them more or less? --[[User:Vadp|Vadp]] 18:59, 20 March 2015 (GMT)

In the [[Template:Marina]] (page template) we had "note" filled by default with "More notes about the Marina". It was at the bottom of the info box spanning both columns. The "image" and "image text" were at the top. I do not think that this makes much of a difference being a rather aesthetic choise.--[[User:Istioploos|Istioploos]] 20:42, 20 March 2015 (GMT)

Welcome to CruisersWiki!

We all look forward to your valued contributions to the Cruising Wiki to help it grow as a useful, free resource for all cruisers around the world. Now you are registered, you can set your personal preferences in "My Preferences" (link at top R/H of page when logged in).

Spend a little time reading the Wiki Help and the Style Guide to gain a better understanding of the Wiki formatting and how to edit articles. Also, please read the Cruiserswiki Copyrights notice, as well as the General Disclaimers (links at bottom of pages) before starting to edit. Then, do add what you can - even correcting grammar and spelling errors in articles is a great help - but do not use the Rich Editor to do so, since there is a problem with it at present. It is easy to see if you are going wrong, since you cannot save your changes to a page without previewing them first.

Use any page's "Discussion" tab (top of page's menu) to ask any questions or make any suggestions about that particular page.

Finally, please note that massive changes by a new editor are liable to be considered spam and the editor will be blocked. Please concentrate on editing pages of the places that you have actually visited. Also please avoid using the "Rich Editor", it does not work well and creates problems.

Again, welcome and have fun! Bring out that hidden "Cruising Guide writer" in you. Vadim 16:16, 29 January 2016 (GMT)
