More notes about the marina

The marina of Vento di Venezia lies at the W end of the island of La Certosa, which is situated 200 metres NE of the island of Sant’Elena at the easternmost extremity of the city of Venice. It is directly opposite the basin of Venezia Sant’Elena and close to the Porto di Lido, the main entrance to the lagoon. It has 300 berths for yachts up to 25 metres, although the access channel to reach it is shallow (2.5 metres at low water). Maximum depths at the berths are around 3.0 metres (6.0 metres for the superyacht berths).

Marina radio contact

Call Vento di Venezia marina on VHF channel 72. For advance reservations, telephone, or e-mail.

Navigation/Approach

Access is via the Porto di Lido, the principal (and busiest) entrance to the lagoon. As the deepest channel, with depths of over 10 metres, it is also the one used by ferries and large commercial vessels. The ends of the N and S breakwaters are identifiable by conspicuous black and white and red and white painted structures. A fairway beacon is situated around 2.5 miles SE of the entrance, from where a course of 300 degrees brings you safely through the entrance. The safe channel is also indicated by port and starboard markers. The channel is dredged to over 10.0 metres. Entry is best around slack water, since the tides can reach 4.0 knots at springs. Beware of cross-currents. Once through the entrance, follow the channel, which is marked with posts, as it curves S for about 1.5 miles, leaving the island of La Certosa to starboard, before turning NW into the channel between La Certosa and Sant’Elena islands. The marina berths are in a narrow channel between the western tip of La Certosa and a small offshore island. A long breakwater extends SSW from the eastern side of the entrance channel, in which depths are about 2.5 metres at low water. Entry is best made between half tide and high water, staying close to the breakwater to avoid dangerous shoals to port.
